Agency demand is a leveraged bet on everybody else hiring. When companies grow, agencies do well. When hiring stops, agency revenue falls faster than the wider economy does.

There is no separate count of agencies in the statistics. They sit inside admin and support services, which opened 14.4 per cent and closed 13.5. You build the count from the trade codes yourself.

And keep permanent and temporary apart. 78109 is the perm desk. 78200 is temp. Different cash flow, different software, different problems.

The best moment to reach one is just after founding. A recruiter who has gone alone needs a system, a website, job boards, contracts and insurance, all at once. And the date they started is public.
