What sits in division 93
This division covers how the UK plays. The biggest code is 93199, other sports activities. Personal trainers, coaches, sports consultants and athletes' companies all register there. Code 93290 gathers amusement and recreation businesses not classified elsewhere, from escape rooms to soft play. The bricks-and-mortar operators are easier to spot. Gyms and fitness studios use 93130. Sports clubs use 93120. Facility operators running pitches, pools and leisure centres use 93110. The coaching codes skew towards one-person companies. The facility codes are real premises businesses.
Fitness is a strong vertical, because operators buy openly and often. They need gym management and booking software, equipment finance and supply, insurance, and marketing to win members. A new 93130 company usually comes just before a site opens. That is the window for fit-out companies, equipment vendors and utilities brokers. Personal trainers under 93199 respond to accountancy, insurance and app offers timed to incorporation. Clubs under 93120 are often member-run and spend cautiously. A UK SIC code is five digits and division 93 is the first two of them. Everything filed under 93 shares those digits: all 7 codes below begin 93, then the third digit narrows to a group, the fourth to a class and the fifth to the subclass a company actually picks. Division 93 sits inside section R, arts, entertainment and recreation, which is the broadest tier of the classification. So a code is read left to right, from an industry down to a specific activity.

Most PTs incorporate under 93199, other sports activities. Code 93130 fits better if you run your own studio. Code 85510 suits work that is mainly coaching or instruction. Companies House applies no test. You declare the code at incorporation, or amend it on a confirmation statement (CS01). You can hold up to 4 codes if the business spans training, facilities and education.
Gym or sports facility: should I register 93130 or 93110?
Code 93130 is aimed at fitness facilities, gyms and studios built around exercise. Code 93110 covers operating sports facilities such as pitches, courts, tracks and pools. Multi-purpose leisure operators often hold both, within the limit of 4 codes per company. The choice has no legal consequence and no approval step. An accurate code does decide which supplier and buyer lists you land on.
