UK SIC 2007 · Division 60

Programming and broadcasting activities (SIC division 60)

Division 60 of the UK SIC 2007 list. It holds 2 codes, listed in full below with the number of active UK companies filed under each.

Sector context

What sits in division 60

Division 60 is about running channels, not making shows. The work is building a schedule and transmitting it to an audience. Television broadcasters register under 60200, and that includes streaming-first channel operators. Radio stations use 60100, from national networks down to community and internet radio. The line with division 59 matters. A company that makes programmes for someone else's channel belongs in 59113. The company that operates the channel belongs here. That keeps division 60 small and clean, made up of broadcasters, channel businesses and station operators.

Broadcasters buy infrastructure and rights. So the sellers here are technical and legal. Playout and transmission providers, streaming platform vendors, media rights solicitors and audience measurement services all target these codes. Advertising sales houses and sponsorship agencies chase stations for airtime deals. Recruiters place presenters, engineers and schedulers. Community and internet radio operators are often new and short of money. They respond best to affordable licensing, hosting and insurance offers. A new company here usually means a launch is under way. Suppliers who arrive early can shape the whole technology stack.

Anatomy

How to read a division 60 code

A UK SIC code is five digits and division 60 is the first two of them. Everything filed under 60 shares those digits: all 2 codes below begin 60, then the third digit narrows to a group, the fourth to a class and the fifth to the subclass a company actually picks. Division 60 sits inside section J, information and communication, which is the broadest tier of the classification. So a code is read left to right, from an industry down to a specific activity.

More on how division 60 codes are built

Companies choose their own codes at incorporation and can change them on any confirmation statement, and Companies House does not check the answer. A company may list up to four. That is worth knowing before you treat any division total as a headcount: the numbers here are what companies said about themselves, on the August 2026 register, and the largest single code in this division is 60200, television programming and broadcasting activities.

Targeting

Working division 60 as a list

Division 60 holds 2 codes and 6,420 active companies between them. One code carries most of it: 60200 accounts for 61 per cent on its own, and the other 1 code accounts for the rest. Filtering by the whole division is therefore close to filtering by 60200 with a tail attached, so start from the code and widen only if the list runs dry.

More on working division 60

A caveat that matters more in some divisions than others: a company may register up to four SIC codes, and the figures below count every position, not just the first. A business filed under two codes in this division appears under both. Treat the totals as reach rather than a headcount, and if you need a clean list, filter to companies whose FIRST code sits in the division. Every company you pull carries the Companies House record, the director's name, a verified website and a verified email, and the ones we cannot complete are not charged.

Questions

Division 60 questions

Does a podcast or internet radio business belong under 60100?

Code 60100 covers radio broadcasting, including stations sent out over the internet. An operator running a scheduled station fits there. A company that only produces podcast episodes, and runs no channel, is usually better described by 59200, sound recording. The choice is yours. Companies House does not vet SIC codes, and you can hold both if the business sits on the line.

Should a TV business use 60200 or 59113?

Use 60200 if you operate and transmit a channel or a curated schedule, by broadcast, cable or streaming. Use 59113 if you make television programmes that others broadcast. Companies doing both, making shows and running a channel, commonly register the two codes together. That is fine under the four-code limit and needs no approval.
