UK SIC 2007 · Division 32

Other manufacturing (SIC division 32)

Division 32 of the UK SIC 2007 list. It holds 6 codes, listed in full below with the number of active UK companies filed under each.

Sector context

What sits in division 32

Division 32 is where manufacturing's specialists and oddities live. Its biggest UK code by far is 32990, other manufacturing not elsewhere classified. That is the home for products with no division of their own, from candles and crafts to safety equipment. Two real specialist trades sit beside it. Code 32120 covers jewellery makers, and it has deep roots in Birmingham's Jewellery Quarter. Code 32500 covers makers of medical and dental instruments and supplies. That runs from dental laboratories to orthopaedic device firms.

The specialist codes are worth the most. Jewellers need high-value stock insurance, secure logistics and hallmarking, so 32120 is a staple list for brokers in that niche. Medical device makers under 32500 buy regulatory consultancy, quality management support and specialist recruitment. A new company there often means a clinician or engineer is turning a product into a business. Treat 32990 differently. It mixes hobby firms with serious ones, so layer other signals on top. Recent filings, growth and website quality each say something different about what a company will buy next.

Anatomy

How to read a division 32 code

A UK SIC code is five digits and division 32 is the first two of them. Everything filed under 32 shares those digits: all 6 codes below begin 32, then the third digit narrows to a group, the fourth to a class and the fifth to the subclass a company actually picks. Division 32 sits inside section C, manufacturing, which is the broadest tier of the classification. So a code is read left to right, from an industry down to a specific activity.

More on how division 32 codes are built

Companies choose their own codes at incorporation and can change them on any confirmation statement, and Companies House does not check the answer. A company may list up to four. That is worth knowing before you treat any division total as a headcount: the numbers here are what companies said about themselves, on the August 2026 register, and the largest single code in this division is 32990, other manufacturing n.e.c..

Targeting

Working division 32 as a list

Division 32 holds 6 codes and 30,165 active companies between them. One code carries most of it: 32990 accounts for 61 per cent on its own, and the top three take 85 per cent, with the rest spread across the remaining 3 codes. Filtering by the whole division is therefore close to filtering by 32990 with a tail attached, so start from the code and widen only if the list runs dry.

More on working division 32

A caveat that matters more in some divisions than others: a company may register up to four SIC codes, and the figures below count every position, not just the first. A business filed under two codes in this division appears under both. Treat the totals as reach rather than a headcount, and if you need a clean list, filter to companies whose FIRST code sits in the division. Every company you pull carries the Companies House record, the director's name, a verified website and a verified email, and the ones we cannot complete are not charged.

Questions

Division 32 questions

When should a business use 32990 rather than a more specific manufacturing code?

Only after you have checked the specific options. 32990 is meant for products that genuinely fit nowhere else. In practice many companies default to it without looking, which makes the public record less useful. Search the full SIC 2007 list first. If your product truly has no home, 32990 is correct and widely used. You can swap to a better code on any confirmation statement.

Does a dental laboratory belong under 32500 or a healthcare SIC code?

A dental laboratory making crowns, dentures and appliances is a manufacturer, so 32500 is the usual choice. Dental practices that treat patients belong in division 86. A business that runs a lab and sees patients can list codes from both divisions, up to the four-code limit. As with every SIC choice, the company decides. No regulator signs it off.
