Manufacture of rubber and plastic products (SIC division 22)
Division 22 of the UK SIC 2007 list. It holds 3 codes, listed in full below with the number of active UK companies filed under each.
What sits in division 22
Most UK companies here use 22290, manufacture of other plastic products. It is the catch-all. Injection moulders sit in it, along with vacuum formers, acrylic and polycarbonate fabricators, and firms making plastic parts for other industries. Separate codes do exist for plastic packaging, builders' ware, and plates and sheets. The smaller rubber trades have their own codes too. The generic code still wins, because most firms run varied jobs to customer drawings rather than one product line.
These are classic business-to-business factories. The people selling to them sell into the shop floor. Recruiters fill machine setter and toolmaker vacancies. Polymer and masterbatch suppliers, machinery dealers and energy brokers chase the same firms, since power use here is heavy. Recruiters lean on growth signals most. A moulder that is expanding needs skilled operators, and those are hard to find. Filing deadlines give accountants an opening. A new incorporation often means a management team has spun out with customers already in hand. They need finance, insurance and staff straight away.
How to read a division 22 code
A UK SIC code is five digits and division 22 is the first two of them. Everything filed under 22 shares those digits: all 3 codes below begin 22, then the third digit narrows to a group, the fourth to a class and the fifth to the subclass a company actually picks. Division 22 sits inside section C, manufacturing, which is the broadest tier of the classification. So a code is read left to right, from an industry down to a specific activity.
More on how division 22 codes are built
Companies choose their own codes at incorporation and can change them on any confirmation statement, and Companies House does not check the answer. A company may list up to four. That is worth knowing before you treat any division total as a headcount: the numbers here are what companies said about themselves, on the August 2026 register, and the largest single code in this division is 22290, manufacture of other plastic products.
Working division 22 as a list
Division 22 holds 3 codes and 5,466 active companies between them. One code carries most of it: 22290 accounts for 75 per cent on its own, and the other 2 codes account for the rest. Filtering by the whole division is therefore close to filtering by 22290 with a tail attached, so start from the code and widen only if the list runs dry.
More on working division 22
A caveat that matters more in some divisions than others: a company may register up to four SIC codes, and the figures below count every position, not just the first. A business filed under two codes in this division appears under both. Treat the totals as reach rather than a headcount, and if you need a clean list, filter to companies whose FIRST code sits in the division. Every company you pull carries the Companies House record, the director's name, a verified website and a verified email, and the ones we cannot complete are not charged.

Division 22 questions
Is there a different SIC code for plastics fabricators versus moulders?
Not really. Fabricators who cut, bend and assemble plastic sheet use 22290, the same as moulders. The classification looks at the material and the output, not the process. If fabrication is only a small part of a signage or shopfitting business, a code from those trades may suit you better. You decide. Companies House records what you declare and assesses nothing.
We are adding a tool-making workshop to our moulding business. Do we need another SIC code?
You can add one if you want the public record to show it. Tool, mould and die making has its own code in division 25 (25730). A company may hold up to four codes across any divisions. Add it on your next confirmation statement. There is no approval step. Many moulders never bother, which is legal, but accurate codes help suppliers and customers find you.
